Tax Associate

We are looking for a Tax Associate to join our growing Tax team. This position will work with our Tax Director to support our Head of Finance, alongside our Management Accounting and Fund Accounting teams. You will be accountable for all tax aspects and evaluation of optimal tax structures of Capstone’s management company and fund entities. This will include participating in tax consulting calls with external providers, and closely monitoring current tax legislation to determine impact on the Firm/funds and helping Upper Management to plan accordingly. This position will require you to plan, document and coordinate projects to ensure continuous progress and meeting deliverables. There will also be ad hoc analysis.



Management Company

  • Coordinate with external accounting/tax firms for K1s and tax filings for all global entities and review of all tax compliance, including:
    • US, State and local (FED, NY, NYC, CT, CA, 1042 filings)
    • UK Corporate tax filings (PSA, P11D, VAT)
  • Annual Tax filings for applicable jurisdictions (Netherlands, Hong Kong, Italy)
  • Withholding and tax remittance of pass-through entities
  • Work closely with the General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer and assist in preparing the tax analysis related to the opening of potential offices/hiring employees in new jurisdictions
  • Review complex partnership allocations and transfer pricing for all global entities
  • Employee/partner related tax considerations
  • UK: salaried member rules, overlap tax, etc.
  • Analyze worldwide deferral/claw back arrangements
  • Communicate with the Firm’s partners and their tax providers to ensure we are optimizing their tax picture by keeping them up to speed on changes at the Firm
  • Tax estimates as needed


  • Review of tax filings for all entities
  • US withholding tax – review the 871(m)-combination rule withholding as well as US dividend withholding requirements
  • Work closely with the Deputy General Counsel on fund structuring for new fund launches, including US and Cayman entities, as well as the review of tax section of PPMS
  • Responsible for performing tax election analysis for all applicable entities and tax treaty analysis for foreign investors
  • Research tax treatment and respond to tax questions from Portfolio Managers regarding security specific tax questions (e.g. MLPs, SPACs, REITs,  etc.)
  • Explore tax considerations when onboarding new Portfolio Managers or Pods as well as sign-off on new product approvals as it relates to tax treatment, including emerging markets
  • ASC 740 analysis for the fund’s annual audit



  • 2-3 years of experience with a hedge fund or other alternative investment advisor is preferred
  • S. in Accounting or Finance, CPA license is a plus
  • Tax experience is a must
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to self-educate on key tax topics strongly preferred


$105,000 – $115,000 USD
