Database Architect

We are in search of an enthusiastic Senior Database Architect that will bring passion and dedication to their work. The successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys collaborating with various teams, and a self-motivated individual who takes the initiative in ensuring the smooth operation of the firm's essential MS SQL Server environment. This role will be based in London but involves close cooperation with the US DBA team and regular interaction with both technology experts and business users. The Senior DBA will be responsible for maintaining our Always-On setup across three SQL Servers; troubleshooting any issues that arise, closely monitoring system performance, and working alongside our users to optimize queries for increased efficiency. Your capacity to provide data support outside regular UK business hours will be crucial to seamlessly driving our 24/7 operations. Candidates should possess significant experience in SQL Server maintenance and have a proven track record of identifying and resolving complex database problems. As a liaison between technical teams and business users, excellent communication skills are a must. RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Administer, maintain, and support all environments on the firm’s central Microsoft SQL Server platform
  • Provide DBA support for database deployments and upgrades
  • Troubleshoot server and database performance problems, identifying solutions to resolve issues and recommending tuning changes to improve performance.
  • Administer SQL Server security, protecting sensitive data and adhering to the firm's Security and Governance requirements.

DESIRABLE CANDIDATES:

  • Minimum 5-10+ years’ experience of Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Administration
  • Solid hands-on experience with Database technologies supporting 24×7 business critical applications –MSSQL
  • Extensive experience in High Availability & Disaster Recovery Scenarios – AlwaysOn Cluster
  • Experience in the financial industry and understand trading systems is a plus
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as Snowflake, Redshift, Postgres, MongoDB, or Cassandra a big plus
  • Proficiency with Transact-SQL, ability to write, debug, and maintain scripts, stored procedures, functions, and views
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and concisely (both written and verbal communication)
  • Deep knowledge of industry-standard, enterprise-class best practices for a large database environment
  • Excellent automation experience with Python, Unix Shell scripting, etc.
